Action

[Utena's back from her mallynapping. ...and she's been dumped at the very edge of the forest. As she regains consciousness, things begin to come back to her. This place is called Luceti, she has wings, she's been here for a few months now...

But one thing that doesn't come back is her ability to use her voice. The moment she calls out, her eyes widen at the lack of sound.

She shakily stands to her feet--it really looks like the Malnosso did a number to her in more than one way, doesn't it?--and starts walking. She's not about to just stay where she is...]

[Once Utena is able to get back to her residence, she immediately gets her journal and writes down a question:] I hope this isn't too awkward a question to ask, but has anyone ever lost a sense after being kidnapped by the Malnosso before? You see, I can't use my voice right now.

[Shinji catches sight of Utena when she's started making her way through the village. He recognizes her easily—she had been visiting the apartment before to see Misato. Even though he hadn't spent a lot of time there, he remembers that much, at least. He notices that she doesn't look so good, so he starts making his way over to see what's up.]

Hey, are you okay?

[She turns in the direction of the voice. Oh, that's--that boy. Shinji, right? The one who's friends Misato, right? She hasn't talked to Misato since what happened during that weird experiment. She probably should...

Except she can't talk at all, and she remembers that the moment she tries to talk. She closes her mouth in frustration.]

[He blinks at that, confused. He has no idea what to make of that. She's looking right at him, so she can't be ignoring him, right? Hrm.]

Is something wrong?

[She'll just... nod. Since she can't talk.]

[She just seems really tired to him, though now, her silence strikes him as odd. He's still not sure what it could be, but...]

Um... Then is there anything I can do to help?

[Is there? She's not sure. Hm... well, it would be nice to get back to her apartment and get her journal! So, she nods again.]

[Well, at least she's willing to accept his help! Even if... he has no idea what he should actually be doing to help. Hmm.]

Would it help if I walked with you? You could, uh, lean on me if you're not feeling well...

[It's kind of awkward to ask, but if she's tired, maybe that would work?]

[Another nod. She'd appreciate that, Shinji.]

A-all right. [He steps closer, then, and moves to stand beside her.] I think I know the village pretty well, but you'll have to lead the way. I'm not sure where you're staying, so...

[Close to you and Misato. Very close.

But yeah, Utena's leading the way. Might want to keep an eye on her in case she starts to fall, Shinji.]

[He will do his best! She's a little taller than him, but he's sure that as long as he keeps up with her, they should be able to avoid any accidents! ...maybe. Hopefully. At least their building isn't too far away?!

It takes some time to get used to walking like this, but soon, Shinji is sure he's gotten the hang of it. As they walk, he tries to think of something to say even if he's realized by now that this is going to be a pretty one-sided conversation.]

I-I'm sorry if this is too personal, but... what happened? Were you kidnapped?

[She looks at him for a moment, then frowns a little as she nods. ...oh, wait. He might think she's mad at him if she frowns for too long. A...ha. Right, well... she'll just smile again. This lack of voice thing is getting old fast.]

Oh... [He'd kind of figured. Even though he can't think of anyone he knows who's been kidnapped since he came here, it seemed like the most reasonable thing to assume.] I'm sorry to hear that. I... guess that explains a lot, though.

[A small smile. Hey, it's not your fault!]
