Action

[Utena's back from her mallynapping. ...and she's been dumped at the very edge of the forest. As she regains consciousness, things begin to come back to her. This place is called Luceti, she has wings, she's been here for a few months now...

But one thing that doesn't come back is her ability to use her voice. The moment she calls out, her eyes widen at the lack of sound.

She shakily stands to her feet--it really looks like the Malnosso did a number to her in more than one way, doesn't it?--and starts walking. She's not about to just stay where she is...]

[Once Utena is able to get back to her residence, she immediately gets her journal and writes down a question:] I hope this isn't too awkward a question to ask, but has anyone ever lost a sense after being kidnapped by the Malnosso before? You see, I can't use my voice right now.

[Beast happens to be in the same place after taking a long-needed walk around the village. Too long fixing up the mess from the storm... too long trying to dry the first floor of his house and picking up everything... too long catching up on sleep. He has missed his usual exploration and he hasn't come by this spot lately.

And then he sees that girl... the bright pink hair makes her stand out enough, but she's also getting up from the ground, not very smoothly. Is she new? Or...?

Well, whichever it is, she will probably need help so he's going to trudge over in his beastly-like way and try to get her attention.]

H... Hello, uh... d-do you, need some... help?

[Doesn't take much to get her attention, really--Beast is hard to miss.

At first, Utena's not sure what to make of him. But it really does seem like he's just trying to help. That's something she appreciates, so she nods and gives him a little smile. She hopes she can get the appreciation across, even if she can't speak.]

[She doesn't look too scared, good - and he does recognise the appreciation. But that reaction does look familiar... for some reason it reminds him of Ariel, though he doesn't know why.]

I, uh... c-can you... walk?

[She's not sure. She hopes she'll be able to. She manages to take a few steps before falling back over. What did the Malnosso do to her?!

She looks back up at Beast with a sheepish grin. This might take a few attempts.]

[Oh no, she's falling, not good-! D'oh, he fails to reach her in time, but now that he's closer, he offers a paw for her to take to help her back up... this is really starting to remind him of Ariel now - how did he support her again...?]

[She'll gladly take that paw. Man, who knew this was going to be so difficult? She's pretty thankful that Beast showed up, even if she doesn't know him.]

[And once she takes it, he gradually starts to remember what he did last time... and he slowly starts moving forward, one foot at a time, slow enough that she can stay with him.]

[Wow, this guy is being really helpful! Just more proof that you can't judge a book by it's cover, right? She smiles again, becoming more and more grateful to him. She's really glad that there are so many people willing to help out others when it's needed in Luceti. It's one of the things she really likes about the place, actually. She doesn't really have much trouble staying with him, which probably comes as a relief for both of them.]

[Yes, yes it's quite a relief... from what he remembers, she's not being as, er... clumsy?... as Ariel, but he keeps a firm hold just in case. He also takes the time to look over and notice the pink hair. He's... seen stranger, but the colour still intrigues him.]

[She glances over at him in return, still smiling. Still appreciating the help, big guy, though she wishes she had some way of communicating better.]

[They have finally come to some of the houses... this probably means he should stop for a moment. He's still supporting the girl with his arm when he turns his head to her.]

Where... where d-do you, uh...?

[...oh, this might make things difficult. How is she supposed to tell him that she lives in one of the community buildings and not one of the houses? All she can think to do is shake her head.]

[Huh? What is she shaking her head for?] You... y-you don't stay a-anywhere?

[Wait, no! That's not what she meant! Oh, what is she going to do...

With her free hand, she writes "C4" in the air. Standing for community housing building four, of course. She hopes she's being clear enough that Beast understands. This is so frustrating!]

[... She can't talk. Just like Ariel.

... Does that mean she was once a mermaid, too? Um, wait, what's she trying to say?]

C... C-C... [He can't understand the other part. Is it a number?] F... four?

[Nodnod. There we go! That should help both of them out a lot.]

A, alright... C-C... four... [He thinks he remembers where that is... oh great, it's across the bridge and everything, they have a long way to go... well... he'll take it slowly anyway, for her sake.]

[Utena will appreciate that, feeling really guilty that she can't strike up conversation or anything. She really wishes she could.]

[The silence is awkward, but Beast has never minded missing a conversation before. All that matters to him right now is reaching that bridge without making her trip.]

[So far, so good. She doesn't seem to be in any danger of tripping for the moment. Though, she can't say she isn't troubled for other reasons...

The Malnosso... do this a lot to people, don't they? It's a terrible thought to her. What makes them think it's okay to just experiment on and toy with them like this?]

[Finally, Beast's foot reaches the bridge, and he slows down a little more to help her with the level change, keeping a paw on her back and another holding her hand.

Then he sees her face.] Is... is something wrong?

[She really is glad he's helping her like this. It's not that she feels like she's someone to be rescued, but refusing help isn't right either.

She looks to Beast, wishing she could say what was wrong. Maybe if she mouths the word--

"Malnosso."]

[... Ah. That's a word he has heard enough times to tell that's what she's talking about. His face becomes more stern, emphasising the seriousness his voice gives.] They... did this to you.

[An oddly firm nod.]

[His brow lowers even more, a slight rumbling growl coming from his throat.] They have no right.
