[After a confusing morning and an awkward emergency shopping excursion with Marco, Jean finds the time to finally meet up with Utena properly in the afternoon. In all this insanity, it seems that school has been put on hold, which is fine with him, because it's freakin' awkward to show up as one of your classmates. Who is a girl. So they had decided to meet outside Ice Building.

As he approaches, he's surprised to see "himself" standing by the door, even though he knew what he would be getting into by coming over here. This whole thing is so awkward, "awkward" doesn't even begin to do it justice. At least he found something suitable to wear: basic pants and a basic button-down, on the loose side because he'd rather not draw any attention to his chest. It's impossible to feel comfortable in your skin when it's not your own.]

Hey. [It's so damn weird to hear the wrong voice come out when he opens his mouth.] Uh...how are you holding up?

[She managed to find some clothes that worked as well. That way-too-big-for-her shirt that he had picked out the first time they met actually came in handy! And she found some pants that were baggy and needed a belt when she wore them normally that she could still wear--though they were awkwardly a little too short on Jean's body. And that's without going into getting dressed in general... at least Himemiya had been a girl too, the last time this happened!]

I guess as well as anyone can, in this situation. [Yeah, tell her about it. Hearing Jean's voice coming out of her own mouth is weird, too. She rubs the back of her--his--head, sighing.] Um... it'll probably be really weird to hear this, but this isn't the first time this has happened to me. [...] Just the first time in Luceti.

[But does she really want to get into magical, explosive curry with him?]

[...God, is that what he sounds like? Looking up at "himself", he can see the leftovers of hard-to-tame bedhead - but at least that means she must not have showered this morning.]

Seriously? This can happen back where you're from?

[No way was she going to shower! Being covered in boy sweat is way preferable to having to bathe like this!]

Uh... not normally, but... [She looks off to the side.] Let's just say Ohtori's not exactly a "normal" place.

[She wouldn't get into the details of the duels. Good thing the curry had nothing to do with them...]

[He's not that sweaty... If you really want to know the true meaning of boy sweat, go mop up Bertolt.]

Your school, you mean? [The way she'd talked about it before, it sounded ordinary enough.] Dunno if I really want to know...

[Well, she would admit that he's better about the sweat than the boy's basketball team at Ohtori... and no thank you. You think she's crazy or something?]

Let's just say that I've been really wary of curry since then. [A sigh.] But I dunno, I think I'd almost prefer it to stuff like this.

They could've at least given us the right genders. No offense. [Have you ever tried to figure out how the fuck a bra works without letting yourself open your eyes, Utena? The struggle is real.]

And here I thought the Malnosso were so considerate.

You really think I'm going to take offense? [This isn't any more comfortable for her than it is for you!]

What do you think? [That bit about the sarcasm. He heaves a sigh, raking a hand through his...now long and shiny hair. That he probably could have brushed better, but give him a break, he's new at this.]

How do you even put up with all this? [He holds up a random strand of hair and lets it dangle.]

It's not that hard to manage, really. [She gives him... herself... a look.] And it's easy enough to get used to.

[Meanwhile, she'll just run a hand through her now way-too-short hair.]

As for me, it's weird to have hair this short. I mean, I've thought about cutting mine a couple of times, but not this short!

I mean, it looks good on you and all, it's just...driving me nuts to have it. You know?

[He keeps pushing hair away from his face - he really should have invested in some hair accessories, but like he knows fuck all about that stuff. Or how to make a ponytail. Or anything.]

[She really hopes she isn't blushing. She doesn't like Jean like that, but she has to admit that it's a little nice to get a compliment like that from someone who isn't a complete creep.]

I can help you pull it back, if you want. I'd just show you, but it's sort of hard to do right now... [You know. Considering.]

[And now he's a little pink in the face, realizing what he'd said. It just kinda...slipped out. Here's an awkward little laugh to push past that moment.]

Yeah, I don't have much to work with... [In the hair department.] But you have something I could borrow?

Yeah, I have a brush and a couple of hair ties you can have for the time being. Since you're not used to it, it's probably best if you do keep it tied back.

[You know... just in case.]

Thanks. [Then an awkward pause. He shifts his weight to one foot.] Uh...up in your apartment, right?

Well, yeah. Should we go there, or should I just...?

[She runs a hand through her hair--too short, too short, way too weird--in a way that Jean might notice a slight shine coming off her pinky. She's still wearing the ring her prince gave her. How could she not? Even now, it's her one connection to him...]

I can come in with you...if you don't mind, I mean.

[The glimmer of the ring catches his eye, and his eyebrows twitch downward with a frown, but he'll wait to ask about the offending jewelry until she gives him the okay on joining her.]

Yeah, don't worry--I don't mind. Let's go.

[She's more focused on the subject at hand, so she doesn't notice Jean's distaste in her wearing the ring.]

[He'll follow her back inside, and he can't help but drop a grumbling sigh as they pass through the door.]

Do you really have to keep wearing that ring?

[Wait, what?] Yeah, I do. Do you have a problem with it?

[Oops, that sounded a little defensive.]

[He didn't expect such a sharp reaction, and it shows in his face, lax in surprise for a moment before he pushes on.]

It's just kinda...girly, you know? I look like a priss like that.

What are you talking about? There are boys at my school who wear them too. [Something that still baffles her, and also bothers her slightly. Especially since Mikage has one. The man who manipulated all of those people to duel her, who manipulated Wakaba...] Besides, I wear this because... nevermind. You'll probably think it's a strange story.

[As they climb the stairs, he gives her a sideways look, with one eyebrow raised.]

So what? I've heard plenty of strange stories before. [Like what's happening today, with them swapping bodies like they're jackets or something.]

...a long time ago, I met a prince. [She isn't looking at him, stubbornly looking ahead of her.] I don't remember a lot of that time, but I remember him being so impressive. He told me that if I never lost my nobility, we would meet each other again.

[Then she looks down at the pinky where the ring is.]

He gave me this to remember that day. It's my only evidence that I actually met him, and my only tie to him. It's important to me, so that's why I keep wearing it.

[He grips the banister to turn the corner as the staircase doubles back over itself, turning her explanation over in his head. It's a little creepy to see that tender sort of expression on his own mug, especially when she's talking about some prince.]

Oh... So, what, you're waiting for him to come along and sweep you off your feet? [In a joking tone, but a little thin in its awkwardness, like he's not sure if he should poke fun at her about this or not.]
